I enjoy being in the outdoors. Hiking and camping are two of my hobbies I have had since I was a kid. Well, last night I got the opportunity to hear about RGreenway Raleigh, with an App in process (You can also check them out on Twitter). It will ensure that you never get lost in Raleigh’s and the Triangle’s Greenways. I got to hear about them because last night was another Innovate Raleigh meetup.
The purpose of these meetups is to let people know about the people, companies, and organizations that are being innovative and to help promote Raleigh as a hub of innovation across the country.
Last night’s meetup was, in addition to a great opportunity to do some networking, was to provide a brief recap of CityCamp Raleigh 2012, which was held on June 1-3 in downtown Raleigh. During the unconference, RGreenway, the winning team, provided an update on the RGreenway mobile application. This marks the first time in CityCamp history when all elected officials from the local municipality attended a civic-focused unconference. Find out why they came and why they believe open source is good for Raleigh.
The mission of CityCamp is to bring citizens, city government, and businesses together to openly innovate and improve our quality of life through technology. For more information regarding CityCamp Raleigh, visit http://citycampral.org/.
Residents of Raleigh and the Triangle has a wealth of knowledge and experience. We are lucky to be living in a place where people want to be, our local governments are pursuing ideas on how the can be involved. By allowing our residents to be innovative and entrepreneurial, it helps the whole community be being more connected and allows the outside world see that we are not Mayberry, but an area that is on the leading edge of new and unique things.
In a lot of ways, the Triangle is misunderstood. Now I am getting more involved in the entrepreneurial community in the Triangle. But when I saw this video yesterday, I only knew about two of the the places and companies they talked about. Raleigh-Durham may be surrounded by beautiful countryside, but it’s no country town. Modern amenities mix easily with southern hospitality here where progress and possibility collide.
How do you feel the Triangle has been more innovative and how do you think we should let others know about it?
